Vận Động Cho Dự Luật Nhân Quyền Việt Nam 2007
Dự Luật Nhân Quyền Việt Nam 2007 (HR 3096) nếu được Thượng Viện thông qua sẽ thúc đẩy nhanh chóng việc tôn trọng nhân quyền và tiến tŕnh tự do dân chủ cho Việt Nam. Điều quan trọng để nó được thông qua là sự quan tâm và tham dự vào việc vận động của người Mỹ gốc Việt chúng ta. Có 2 khung cảnh và 6 cách vận động:
Khung cảnh toàn bộ 100 nghị sĩ của Thượng Viện và khung cảnh Ủy Ban Ngoại Giao Thượng Viện với 21 nghị sĩ. Năm cách vận động là: 1. Viết thư và gởi bưu điện đến các nghị sĩ của tiểu bang ḿnh 2. Gởi fax 3. Gọi điện thoại 4. Gởi e-mail hay vào e-mail link của trang web các vị nghị sĩ 5. Viếng văn pḥng trung ương hay địa phương của nghị sĩ 6. Nhờ công ty lobbyist chuyên nghiệp vận động
Trong quá khứ chúng ta đă hơn 2 lần bị thất bại ở khung cảnh Ủy Ban Ngoại Giao Thượng Viện (2 dự luật và 1 đính kèm theo luật) cho nên chúng ta phải hết sức phấn đấu để vượt qua được Ủy Ban này. Quư vị ở các tiểu bang Delaware, Indiana, Connecticut, Nebraska, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Tennessee, California, New Hampshire, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Alaska, New Jersey, South Carolina, Maryland, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Virginia có nghị sĩ của ḿnh nằm trong Ủy Ban, v́ vậy ch́a khóa của cánh cửa thứ nhất đang nằm trong tay của quư vị.
Xin quư vị chọn một cách vận động nào thích hợp nhất cho ḿnh và xăn tay áo dấn thân vào công việc, danh sách và các dữ kiện để liên lạc 21 nghị sĩ trong Ủy Ban được liệt kê dưới đây cùng với mẫu thư. Sự hành động của quư vị sẽ giúp cho Việt Nam thay đổi.

Request your support of the Vietnam Human Rights Act 2007 (HR 3096)
Dear Senator ……(điền tên)…., As your constituent, I would like to request your support of the Vietnam Human Rights Act of 2007 (HR 3096), which has passed the House with an overwhelming majority. In the time of engagement, this bill is critical in light of the brutal crackdown going on in Vietnam against human rights activists, religious leaders, social justice lawyers, pro-democracy authors, journalists and scholars. The picture of Father Nguyen Van Ly being muzzled at his own trial epitomizes Vietnam 's policy of political and religious repression.
This legislation sets benchmarks for the Vietnamese leadership to improve the human rights conditions and respect religious freedom in order to avoid the freezing of non-humanitarian aid that is above the current level. The bill also authorizes funding to support the development of civil society and assist human rights defenders.
