Vietnam Human Rights Network Releases

Report on Human Rights in Vietnam 2012

Press Release

April 11, 2013

During a press conference at the Press Club in Little Saigon today, April 11, 2013, the Vietnam Human Rights Network (VNHRN) has released its Report on Human Rights in Vietnam 2012

in English

and in Vietnamese.

The report aims at covering common human rights violations in Vietnam in 2012 based on the criteria set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

The report highlights in particular ongoing violations in the areas of the right to information and freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly and association, the right to security of person, the right to freedom of religion, property rights & ownership, and  all together points out the Communist Party of Vietnam’s totalitarian ambition as the fundamental source of those abuses.

With the report, the VNHRN not only alerts world opinion about the deplorable human rights situation in Vietnam, but also calls for Hanoi authorities to stop the violations which have existed for many years, and to pay damages to the victims. VNHRN also urges freedom-loving governments and international human rights organizations to confront Vietnam with its bad to worse records on human rights; and especially to prevent Vietnam from tarnishing the reputation of the United Nations Human Rights Council by denying it membership in the Council for the 2014-2016 term.
