MEPs travel to Vietnam to examine the human rights situation

From 4 to 6 April, members of the European Parliament will travel to Vietnam to examine the human rights situation in the country following the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.

The delegation, led by Subcommittee on Human Rights Chair Udo Bullmann (S&D, Germany), will visit the Vietnamese capital Hanoi between 4 and 6 April to take stock of the human rights situation in Vietnam, including the rights of workers. The purpose of the visit is to examine how the situation in the Southeast Asian nation has evolved following the entry into force of Vietnam’s free trade deal with the EU in 2020. On site, the delegation will engage with members of the Vietnamese government and the Supreme Court, as well as with representatives of various United Nations bodies, including the International Labour Organization.

In addition to Mr Bullmann, the delegation is composed of the following MEPs: Gheorghe-Vlad Nistor (EPP, Romania), Leopoldo López Gil (EPP, Spain), Isabel Santos (S&D, Portugal), Nacho Sánchez Amor (S&D, Spain), Urmas Paet (Renew, Estonia).

The Investment Protection Agreement will enter into force once it has been ratified by all EU member states.
